Charge! — Wheel Tales of Willow City

Even in a major city in an emergency like the aftermath of a severe storm; earthquake; or tsunami, power can be out for days. Other people are dependant on that same power for more than light or heat. They rely on electrical devices to do the small things like get in and out of bed — to get in and out of the washroom — or to get in and out of a wheelchair or even bed. More than food can be spoiled by lack of refrigeration. Insulin is something that needs to be kept refrigerated.

It would be nice if everyone who had such a need had a back-up power source that would extend the use of their equipment for a day and even something like a generator that could provide power for longer.

We just had a severe storm and some were without power for two or three days. It started with 750,000 homes and businesses without power for 10+ hours and a large chunk of that population as much as 3 days. There sure was a lot of spoiled food.

I don’t know how many considered the elderly, disabled, and the folks living alone under such circumstance.

Remember those folks during times of emergency.

Warehoused — Wheel Tales of Willow City

Warhoused 00 Warhoused 01 Warhoused 02 Warhoused 03 Warhoused 04 Warhoused 05 Warhoused 06 Warhoused 07 Warhoused 08 Warhoused 09When it is deemed that a person in hospital can no longer live safely in their home, the social service administration that looks after a person’s health and well-being, can refuse to release them until a suitable location is found?

This can be the case when a person falls and breaks a hip, or shows that they can no longer do transfers from a wheelchair without aid. This can happen even if the person isn’t on any disability benefit or pension, but is financially independent.

Instead of going back to the home they left, they end up being “warehoused” in a hospital until a space in a suitable facility opens up. It might be necessary for a person to have more assistance requiring a “semi-assisted living” facility or an “assisted living” one. In the meantime they languish in the stark environment of a hospital taking up a valuable bed. They are “warehoused”.

The only solution I can think of are making more units available. Growth is needed in facilities with our aging populations.

I have noticed that the money only seems to be pouring in for those demographics for whom that party is seeking votes from.

Everyone one else seems to be ignored. I know that they seek everyone’s votes and travel to everywhere that voters are, but everything just seems aimed at getting the necessary votes to win. Don’t things have to be run during an election as well? Doesn’t everyone deserve attention for the needs of the public?
