Clips! — Wheel Tales of Willow City

Tomorrow (Monday, August 21, 2017) there will be a total eclipse of the Sun that will be visible in many places across North America. While this is a rare and special event, it can also be dangerous. Staring at the Sun, even for a short time can cause partial blindness or even total blindness.

Do not look at the Sun with unprotected eyes. Only use special glasses made just for this purpose. Sun glasses, no matter how good, are not good enough.

If you can’t get those special glasses there are safe ways to see the eclipse. One of the simplest is to make a small hole with a nail or pin in a sheet of card-stock. Like a file folder or cardboard from a cereal box. Then turn your back to the Sun and look at the shadow of that cardboard on a light coloured background — like another sheet of that cardboard. The Sunlight that passes through the pinhole will be an image of the Sun that is safe to view.

It is possible to use almost any small hole as a pinhole. It can be interesting to see all the images of the Eclipse you might find caused by holes in objects casting shadows — like the gaps between leaves in a tree or the holes in a colander. (normally used to strain stuff in the kitchen like pasta)

Here is a good plan for a pinhole projection viewer from NASA. It is inexpensive, easy to make, and cheap to make.

This is a safe way to view the eclipse. The eclipse will be worth seeing even if you are not in the narrow track across the US that is a Total eclipse.

Oh, and check the article and links below the YouTube video for important links and information!

Some more information from NASA.

Please be safe! Many people have had permanent eye damage and even blindness by looking at the Sun without proper protection.

I hope you enjoy these and I would really appreciate your spreading the word. My stories are spread by word-of-mouth so this is the way that others might also see them.

Thank you!

Eclipse August 21, 2017

Eclipse by DWPenner 2017If you have a chance, I hope you can catch the eclipse coming on Monday, August 21, 2017. It’s visible over much of North America with a swath of totality cutting diagonally across the continent.

Don’t forget your Eclipse glasses to protect your eyes! You can also create pinhole viewers with paper, foil, and a cereal box – or just card-stock, like file folders.

Be safe while viewing the event! Sun spots belong on the Sun, not burnt into your retina!

Try to Walk More — Wheel Tales of Willow City

I recently spent some time in hospital and one of the high points was the great care I received from the registered nurses and other staff there. They did a very good job even with the trying case I presented to them. However upon being discharged their instructions were… a bit contradictory.

Among other instructions: Take time to walk as much as possible as it would accelerate the healing of my surgical wound in my belly. And to stay off my left foot in order not to retard the healing of the wound on the sole of my left foot. The instructions for one seemed to contradict the other.

I’m working it out and have healed greatly.

I hope you enjoy these and I would really appreciate your spreading the word. My stories are spread by word-of-mouth so this is the way that others might also see them.

Thank you!

Special – Emotional — The Gnomestead Tapestry

Emotional

A Gnomestead Tapestry Special.

You might not think the little characters in The Gnome Tapestry can show much emotion. It is possible for them to display a fair range of feelings. Check out this special!

Do you think the characters should show more emotion in the strips? Normally I just let the situation speak for itself. I hope you enjoy the cartoon strips!

Feel free to share a link to these cartoons with your friends.

Thanks!

Shape of things to come.

Status

During the hiatus between January 2017 and July 2017 I spent a couple of months where publishing weekly comics wasn’t possible due to health reasons. I took some of this time to consider the direction the strips would take and though I still haven’t published any instalments of “Space Trek” or “Wheel Tales of Willow City” I have been able to produce two cartoons for “The Gnomestead Tapestry”.

Each of these two cartoons have been riddles. During my hiatus I decided to publish some classic riddles in the Tapestry. Some will be my take on historic ones like “The Riddle of the Sphinx” — and others will be completely original like the current one in “Picture This!”

As I say at the end of each cartoon, I hope you enjoy them and I hope you can share the links to the cartoons with your friends.

Thanks!

News for Today

Hi!

Sorry, but there have been a few problems beyond my control that have kept me from putting out a cartoon last weekend.

the-monarchy-strikes-back-901 Sometimes health issues are totally out of our control — as are the tests those issues require us to go through that wear us out. Sometimes it seems like life provides one obstacle after another. At least I was able to find the problem and repair (somewhat) that chair of mine.

BTW I included the picture above which is a part of the work in progress on “The Monarchy Strikes Back”.

Gnorman 2bI’m looking forward to getting some more cartoons ready to publish!.

ForesterIn the meantime, here are the contents pages for the cartoons I publish here:

Happy American Thanksgiving Day!

Have a great Thanksgiving Day to our American Cousins from The Gnome Tapestry!

thanks-giving-tableI hope that you have a safe Thanksgiving Day!. Please be safe on the road. I hear there is snow in many parts of the US so take a little extra time. We have much to be thankful for and I hope that you do as well. One of the best is being able to spend time with family, friends, and other loved ones. I’m also thankful that the “The Gnome Tapestry” has been going on for over 3 years! I have so very many things to be thankful for that I can’t number them.

Thanks!
