Happy Thanksgiving Day! 2018

thanks-giving-tableI want to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving! I hope that you can spend the day with those you love and consider all that you have to be thankful for. Please be safe on the roads if you are travelling.

Monday is Thanksgiving Day in Canada, October 8th, 2018. We hold it the second Monday in October. Our harvest is on average a bit earlier than in the US so our end of harvest holiday is earlier as well.

Thanks for dropping by!

Down on the Farm – Mom Mom Mom — The Gnomestead Tapestry

A Gnomestead Tapestry Short.

A Down on the Farm story: Mom Mom Mom!

To all the Mothers out there, I wish you a “Happy Mother’s Day!” Some of us are still fortunate enough to have our mothers with us. We can give them a call or even give them a hug. Cherish them while you can. If not, I hope you can fondly recall the good times with them.

Hoping you enjoy this “Gnomestead Tapestry” School Daze posting. Feel free to share it around!

Thanks!

May the Fourth Be With You!

May the FourthI can still remember lining up to see Star Wars the first week it came out. I don’t know that any of the franchise will ever equal the thrill of that experience seeing “Star Wars” — later known as “Star Wars IV: A New Hope” for the first time.

In truth, I’ve enjoyed all the episodes in the franchise. I look forward to “Solo: A Star Wars Story” when it comes out — later in the month..

Happy New Years! 2017/2018

Happy New Years!

New Years Eve 2014I hope that 2017 was good year for you and that 2018 will be a great year! Of course there will be dips in the road of life as well as peaks, but it is travelling down the road that is the purpose and not the destination that is the goal.

Sometimes the best views are from the tops of those hills we climb, sometimes the most beautiful brooks at the bottom of the dips in the road.

Happy New Year!

Lest We Forget

Take a Moment to Remember

Remembrance Day 2017

This is a day to remember all those people who have made sacrifice for others. Take a moment today to remember those who went to war — some never to return, others returning whole or broken; both inside or out. Remember, in addition to the soldiers, the peace keepers, the first responders and others that keep us safe. Also remember their parents, grandparents, spouses, siblings, children, grandchildren, and all who loved them and miss them.

We hear “PTSD” mentioned frequently with regards to those who have served in dangerous, violent situations. I think we should remember, even before we send people into these situations how they are being put into danger. They don’t come back untouched. It is a sacrifice made even if they aren’t physically hurt.

We might agree or disagree with the wars that have happened, but regardless of that soldiers place their lives on the line for us.

Let us not forget their sacrifices.

The Halloween Specials

Over the past 4 years I’ve published a few Halloween cartoon strips following a 5 part one the first year.

I’m not sure what I will be doing next year… then again, I didn’t know what I was going to do this year either!

Jack’s Tale

Jack’s Tale

They came for the small ones, the gherkins, and I said nothing.
Then they came for the larger cucumbers and the zucchini, and I did nothing.
The vegetable marrow and the summer squash went, and still I said nothing.
Then, the melons were gone before I could even think of doing anything.
The thumping thuds on the watermelons haunt me still.
Now they’ve come for my brother and me.
I scream silently as he cries, “They’re cutting into me.”
“They are scoping out my brains.”
I smell the ginger, nutmeg, and cinnamon even as they carve a hideous face on my brother.
I smell the roasting of the seeds from my brother’s head even as the knife stabs into me.
